Youghal Medieval Day;   21st August 2011  Peter will be giving an archery demonstration at Youghal. Telling lies and legends of days of yore (and gore). Different arrows - for every occasion and various bows including an English (Yew) longbow). 

Cashel; A Walled Towns Festival will take place in Cashel County Tipperary.

Cappoquin; Winnie Fennel Festival.A festival of music - mostly traditional- over the weekend remembering the name of a venerable publican where the musicians used to gather every first Friday in the month, (That honour since passed to the Sportsman- Main Street, Cappoquin). Date: Last weekend in March each year.

Fun and frolicks around town as musicians pour into the hostelries for informal sessions. 3 minimum each day from lunch and a more formal concert in the Cappoquin Community Centre in the evenings.

Saint Patrick's Day Parade;  Date; 17th March. 
More fun and frolicking. Peter - last year  dressed up as a French onion-seller to mark the 10th anniversary of Cappoquin twinning with Chanat La-Mouteyre, in France. Glenribbeen Eco Lodg provided great 10lts French onion soup (with cognac) that dissappared in no time.
Afterwards he will be playing music in one of the local pubs.

CappoquinCappoquin Raft Race. Aug 30th Blackwater River Cappoquin Cappoquin Raft Race consists of rafts that may be sat upon, straddled, rowed, punted, sailed, stand up/sit down but NOT in. All forms of non motorised rafts are accepted and the race is open to all (races etc) there is a charge (€15,- I believe per raft) and all money goes to a local charity.

Lismore & DungarvanMusic lessons start in September. Usually Wednesdays at home in Lismore and Dungarvan Sports Centre on Fridays. Lessons are €25,- per 40mins each or €60,- per month (payable in advance) for 4 lesson each of 30mins.

Dog Racing; Youghal I believe Tusday evenings are free in the Summer months. Good family fun. And there's a Family Adventure Playground (covered amusement park) across the road form it Perks. 10 pin-bowling, cassino, snooker-tables, children's party area and many (electronic) games and rides.

Music ; CCE. Cheoltas Choiltórí na hÉirann - Irelands official music/cultural organisation - based in Dublin (01-2800295) but most areas have a brance to hear and learn Irish music.

Fishing News:  From Blackwater Lodge fishery; Since late October a lot of rain has fallen, and the river is considerably higher than it was for most of the season. Huge numbers of fish are now coming into the Blackwater. The fish counter at Clondulane weir reports 7,500 salmon running through in the8 days from October 27th.
The counter only counts a small proportion of the fish that are actually running through as many go directly over the weir rather than up the fish-pass on which it is situated. Most of these are earlier season fish which should anyway have run up earlier in the summer. Many of the prolific autumn salmon run are destined to spawn in the 12 miles or so of the lower river between the tidal limit just below Lismore & Clondulane, so these would not be counted anyway.
All this bodes well for the future of salmon fishing on the Blackwater, and this, together with the recession busting incentives we have planned for 2011 will hopefully ensure that many more anglers will be able to enjoy the peace, tranquility and superb salmon fishing provided by the Cork Blackwater.
